The team at Catnic are celebrating a major Net Zero milestone as the site attained certification for best practices in energy management following a successful audit held in December. Catnic received ISO 50001 certification following two in-depth audits.
“We are incredibly pleased to have attained the certification, it was truly a site wide team effort, and I’d like to pay special praise for our young project engineer Tomos Griffiths who helped pull it all together. The initial Stage 1 audit sampled our management system, ensuring we had all the elements of the standard required. We then proceeded to the Stage 2 audit which reviewed our significant energy users (SEU’s) and discussions with the team to assess their understanding of energy awareness and best practice in all parts of the business. The assistance from Paul Wheeler’s central sustainability team also played a pivotal part. So, a wealth of gratitude goes to Martin Warrior and Steven Pritchard who guided our approach and were on hand throughout the entire process to support us.”
Martin and Steven were able to offer invaluable knowledge gained from supporting other Tata Steel UK sites to achieve ISO 50001 certification, by sharing the good practices and any non-conformances picked up to help the Catnic team be better prepared ahead of the audits. The support certainly paid off and there was certainly great elation when hearing the words from the auditor that Catnic can now receive certification for its energy management.
“This is a fantastic milestone, we formed an energy saving team when energy prices skyrocketed. The team, initially led by Tracey Davies, and then myself, has been working hard to implement our plans for reduced energy usage, without impact to our customers. And while energy savings will always make economic sense, this is also an important milestone in Catnic’s sustainability commitment and our journey to Net Zero.”
