Lewys Lavelle may be one of the newest members of the Catnic team, but come the weekend he is representing his country up and down the length and breadth of the UK and beyond.
At 18, Lewys has already represented Wales in bowls multiple times, and is on course to hit a half century before the age of 25.
Still early into his career, Lewys has only been at Catnic for five weeks. He came to join the team as a Customer Services Representative following an inspiring visit to his school from Andrew J Thomas, Health Safety & Environment Manager who was there to promote the benefits of a career at Catnic.
Lewys said: “When spectators at events ask what my day job is I’m proud to say I work for Catnic. Often, people recognise the brand for the quality products and service we provide.
“My passion for bowls started when I was walking through a local park and saw people playing bowls. I was intrigued and asked if I could have a go and was instantly hooked.
“It’s hard to describe the fascination, while the game is relatively straight forward to pick up, there is a lot of tactics to winning a game. Plus, it’s a very social sport to get involved in too.”
Within a matter of months of picking up his first bowl, he was representing Wales in the u18’s and during his short time in the sport has been a South Glamorgan County champion, a Welsh semi-finalist, and a silver medallist in the British Isles.
“Now I’m progressing toward the senior game, there are a lot more trials to score points to be shortlisted for the senior team. Naturally points include the way you play, but also on how you present yourself during and after a game.
“When you play for Wales, there is a certain professional conduct expected of players. It’s this conduct that I carry into my day job at Catnic. As a face to our customers, I aim to present Catnic in the best light during my daily conversations.”
Catnic will be sponsoring Lewys in 2024, so he’ll be able to proudly wear the colours of Catnic when he’s competing.
